Absecon’s South Jersey Field of Dreams Vandalized
The South Jersey Field of Dreams in Absecon, the baseball field where physically and mentally disabled children and adults get to play baseball was vandalized over the weekend.
Absecon Police say they are aware of "several incidents that occurred at the Field of Dreams complex this past weekend. Several juveniles involved in the incident(s) have been identified".
The South Jersey Field of Dreams, in the Jonathan Pitney Recreation Park in Absecon, celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2022 of welcoming kids and adults who have never had the chance to play America's pastime to participate on teams.
Over the years, a team of dedicated volunteers has worked hard to expand the amenities at the field's complex, with a playground, mini-golf, snack bar, fitness trail, and much more.
The idea that anyone, regardless of their age, would vandalize this wonderful complex is baffling to me. Police say they will hold the vandals responsible.
The Field of Dreams complex is staffed and ran by volunteers, who take great pride in providing a safe and fun area for our special needs children and their families. Vandalism will not be tolerated and those who commit offenses will face charges. Please help us in keeping the Field of Dreams and the City of Absecon a family-oriented and welcoming community.
This isn't the first time that people have vandalized the South Jersey Field of Dreams. In November 2012, someone driving a truck or a SUV drove over the brand-new field surface causing extensive damage to the baseball field.
That incident led the Field of Dreams to install a video surveillance system.
The next spring, two men and a woman were caught on the video system after painting obscenities on a fence and a building in the SJFOD complex.
