While most residents of Absecon were asleep during the overnight hours of Thursday the 16th, criminals were busy breaking into their cars.

Police say that between 3 and 5 am, they started getting calls about suspicious individuals and attempted car burglaries.

By the time people were ready to leave for work, several cars had been broken into.

Police say the criminals seem to have targeted vehicles that were left unlocked.

Now, the Absecon Police Department is asking for the public's help to track down the perpetrator.

Police believe there may be more victims they don't know about, and ask residents to contact them at 609-641-0667.

Also, if you live in one of those areas and have a security camera, police want to hear from you as well.

Police have taken this opportunity to remind residents of their security camera registration program.

You can get more information about the program by clicking this link.

Residents have remarked on the department's Facebook page how pleased they are with the attention given to this situation.

One resident on the page wrote,

Thank you for going door to door. An officer was here this morning. I appreciate your fast action on catching the culprits.

Many of the thefts could have been prevented by applying some common sense.

Residents are reminded to always keep their car doors locked.

Also, never leave anything of value in your car.

If you believe you may have been a victim or if you have any information you believe could be useful to their investigation, call the Absecon Police Department at 609-641-0667.
