Sinus pressure can make everyday life unpleasant. Fight back with these natural and easy fixes!

  • 1

    Run a Humidifer

Dry air can irritate your sinuses, but keeping air moist can help reduce congestion. Try to inhale steam two to four times a day by running the shower with hot water and sitting in the bathroom with the door shut.

  • 2

    Avoid Smoke and Chemicals

Fumes from harsh cleaning products, paints, hair spray, perfumes -- and most of all, cigarette smoking -- can irritate your sinuses. Avoid smoke and use green cleaning products.

  • 3

Drink More Water or Hot Tea

Water keeps you hydrated and helps keep you clear. Beverages that contain caffeine or alcohol can be dehydrating and alcohol can worsen sinus swelling.

    Try a Nasal Wash

Try nasal irrigation the form of a rinse bottle or neti pot.  I have always used a saline spray, but I just started using a neti pot with a saline and water mix. It takes a little getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it really helps you breathe better.

To make your own solution, mix about 16 ounces (1 pint) of lukewarm sterile water with 1 teaspoon of salt. Some people add ½ teaspoon of baking soda to take the sting out of the salt. These washes help flush out allergens and can help keep your sinuses clean and clear.

    Avoid Allergens

Avoid outdoor exercise at peak pollution hours. Bathe your pet and clean your home regularly to keep allergies from clogging your sinuses.
