Here's something I hope I never encounter while spending the day on the beach - a shark attack. That's what possibly happened to two children enjoying the day swimming off the coast of Fire Island, Long Island. reports the two children may have been involved in a shark attack. Apparently, a 12-year-old girl suffered a bite on Sailor's Haven Beach and a 13-year-old boy was bitten on Atlantique Beach while riding a boogie board. Officials have not yet confirmed that the bites were actually by a shark.

The report states that both children suffered leg bites and were taken to area hospitals with non-threatening injuries. Officials promptly closed both beaches for the day.

According to the report, you have a better chance of winning the lottery then getting bit by a shark. The odds are 1 in 11.5 million, which is music to my ears since I spend most of the summer on the beach. It's always smart to be careful and stay alert while swimming in the ocean.
