No more cigarettes are allowed on the boardwalk in Wildwood and North Wildwood.

The law officially took affect on New Year's Day and if ignored, could result in some heavy consequences.

If you decide to light up on the boardwalk in North Wildwood, there is a fine of $250. However, Wildwood is not messing around because if caught with a lit cigarette in hand, the fine will cost up to $1,000 or even result in up to 90 days in jail.

Dozens of mini fires have been caught in trash cans over the years and now between the need to keep the public safe and make the air cleaner, this law was unanimously passed in both towns.

These towns are far from the first to put this rule into affect. Other spots include Long beach Township, Cape May Point, and Ship Bottom.
