New Jersey isn't that big of a state, which means there shouldn't be a ton of towns right? If there isn't enough room for a lot of towns, that means we shouldn't have repeats or crazy similar names, right? I wish that logic was sound. However, sadly for Jersey people and people who visit New Jersey, this is not the case.

New Jersey has 565 municipalities. Which that breaks down to 254 boroughs, 52 cities, 15 towns, 241 townships, and 3 villages. Let's compare that to Texas which has 1,214 municipalities. New Jersey, we have no excuse. How bad is our town naming process? Let's just put it this way, we have FIVE Washington Townships.

Not only are there 5 Washington Townships in New Jersey, but we also have four Franklin Townships, three Greenwich Townships, two Springfield Townships, two Hopewell Townships, two Ocean Townships, two Monroe Townships, two Lawrence Townships, two Hamilton Townships, two Fairfield Townships, and two Mansfield Townships.

Clearly, someone got lazy naming Upper, Middle, and Lower Township.

There is Raritan and Raritan Township and Bordentown and Bordentown Township. Don't forget about  Wildwood, West Wildwood, North Wildwood, and Wildwood Crest.

If you don't get confused by Morristown or Moorestown, that's a miracle. You always have to ask which one someone is referring to if it is not written down. There's also Belmar and Bellmawr. Nope, that's not confusing.

Seriously New Jersey, what gives?
