This isn't necessarily a fun way to wrap up a summer weekend on the Jersey Shore. A weekend rescue took place in the muck and mud by the North Wildwood Fire Department.

North Wildwood Fire Department and Emergency Rescue crews were first alerted to the scene around 9 pm on Sunday night. The rescue took place by land and by boat according to NJ.com

Poor visibility also hampered the rescue efforts. The wave runner rider was stuck in the waist and chest-deep muck and mud in the marsh about 1,000 feet from the closest area accessible by boat.

Rescue workers were able to pinpoint the man's position thanks to a whistle he was blowing. The total rescue operation took over three hours. The man was taken back to awaiting boats.

Great job by the North Wildwood Fire Department and Emergency Response crews!
