Analysis by the Columbia Climate School’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory found the quake took place on a previously unmapped fault that runs south to north.
A line of thunderstorms rolled across New Jersey with a brief period of heavy rains and gusty winds in most areas, according to New Jersey 101.5 Chief Meteorologist Dan Zarrow. Some of those storms hit a particularly unstable pocket of air leading to torrential downpours.
