Lady Gaga Slammed For Not Speaking Out Against R. Kelly
Lady Gaga is in hot water with fans for her refusal to speak out against R. Kelly amid the airing of the Lifetime docuseries, Surviving R. Kelly.
The controversy began when dream hampton, who produced the documentary, called the "Shallow" singer out. On Monday, hampton appeared on "The Karen Hunter Show" on SiriusXM to address Gaga, 32.
"I wanted to know how Lady Gaga could be on SNL with him as someone who advocated for domestic abuse survivors and (...), you know, had this ridiculous performance with him on SNL," she said.
The outrage has spread to Twitter, where fans expressed their disappointment and disgust over Gaga's decision to collaborate with R. Kelly, 52, amid whispers of abuse and more. Many claim there's no way the musician was unaware of the allegations against him, accusing her of being a "hypocrite."
"Everyone knew this s--- about R Kelly for years and Lady Gaga still collaborated with him," one user tweeted.
Another said, "I'm confused how #LadyGaga can be so vocal in her support of #MeToo yet remain silent about R. Kelly who by the time she collaborated with him was a well known pedophile and sexual predator."
"While Lady Gaga is getting ready for the #GoldenGlobes...she is still silent on R. Kelly...Jay Z, who during that time did a collaboration album with him, also choose [SIC] to stay silent...Is this your pop queen? Is this your Hip-hop king?" Another wrote.
Perez Hilton noted that "As recently as May of 2014" Gaga had been "singing R. Kelly's praises." The gossip blogger shared a screen grab of a tweet from Gaga, in which she said she regularly listened to R. Kelly's music and cried, adding, "He's so amazing."
She still has not spoken out.
