Public officials are looking to keep our fishers safe!

In order to get to the jetty that is located at Oriental Avenue and the Boardwalk, fishers must climb over the boardwalk railing and climb down about 10 feet to reach the primetime fishing area.

It was just voted that a safe access path to the jetty and a surface cover that will go on top of the rocks will be built in the near future.

"I'm ecstatic about it," said Noel Feliciano, owner of One Stop Bait & Tackle Shop in Atlantic City. "It's something different to do for every tourist who comes to Atlantic City — to come fish."

These safety additions are very necessary because jetties offer fisherman access to the deeper water without having to own a boat. Plus, the rocks attract the fish.

There is also hope that other safe access entry points will be built for other jetties in Atlantic City in the near future.

"It will be beneficial for recreation and tourism and for the residents of the city," said U.S. Rep. Van Drew.

If there is a jetty that you believe needs similar additions for safety reasons, reach out to your local public officials!
