Two people from Brooklyn are facing charges in Atlantic City after they allegedly refused to pay a cab driver and then threatened him with a pocket knife.

The scene unfolded around 7:15 Monday night when officers with the Atlantic City Police Department were called to the beach block of Arkansas Avenue for a report of a physical altercation.

There, the victim, identified as a local cab driver, said he gave a ride to two people who then refused to pay him.

According to police, the cab driver followed the two, identified as 26-year-old Eric Blanco-Reid and 24-year-old Brianne Cox, both of Brooklyn, before becoming engaged in an altercation with Blanco-Reid.

During the altercation, Blanco-Reid threatened the victim with a pocket knife. While struggling with the victim, the knife was dropped to the ground and Cox picked it up. The couple then fled the area.

The cab driver was not injured.

Officers Sanchez and Garcia were able to obtain surveillance photographs of the couple with assistance from the Caesars Hotel and Casino security staff. Using these photographs, the police department’s Surveillance Unit was able to track the path of Blanco-Reid and Cox down the Boardwalk to Bally’s Atlantic City.

The pair was arrested inside of a restaurant at Bally's where authorities say the knife used was recovered from Cox.

Charges Filed

Blanco-Reid was charged with robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and theft of services. He was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Cox was charged with theft of services and conspiracy; she was released on a summons with a future court date.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
