Wildwood Catholic Alum Caleb Fields named to MAAC All-Championship Team
It was a weekend filled with upsets in men's college basketball all over the county and Atlantic City was no exception.
At Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall, the no. 5 seeded St. Peter's Peacocks, upset the No. 1 seed, Quinnipiac on Friday night, then took care of No. 2 seed Fairfield on Saturday in the title game to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years.
However, one local on the Fairfield side stood out all weekend, 2018 Wildwood Catholic graduate Caleb Fields.
Fields was named to the 2024 MAAC Men's Basketball All-Championship Team after scoring 19.6 points per game in the three games at Boardwalk Hall.
The Cape May Court House native was the Cape-Atlantic League Player of the Year in 2018. He helped lead Wildwood Catholic to the winningest season in program history, as the Crusaders went 26-3 during the 2017-18 season.
As a senior, Fields averaged 21.1 points and 4.6 rebounds and led Wildwood Catholic in assists (83) and steals (54), while also shooting 81.1 percent (142-for-175) from the free-throw line. Overall during his time at Wildwood Catholic, Fields scored 1,674 points.
From there he went to Bowling Green University before landing at Fairfield.
In 32 games this season at Fairfield, Fields averaged 16.4 points, four rebounds, and 2.5 assists, helping the Stags reach the MAAC Tournament Finals.

Fairfield defeated Iona and Marist before falling to St. Peter's in the final. With a win, they would have advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
