North Wildwood Police are reporting a shocking case of a father endangering the welfare of a child. A man who was smoking PCP while with his infant son, swung him around recklessly, dropping and injuring the boy.

The father's actions were caught on video.

North Wildwood Dad Dropped Baby After Smoking PCP

Police in North Wildwood say they responded to several calls about a man having a possible medical issue on the 1200 block of Atlantic Avenue on Tuesday, July 2.

Police were told that David Fletcher III, 38, of North Wildwood, was with his infant son.

After seeing Fletcher, police suspected that he was under the influence due to his erratic behavior. Police say they also noticed that the baby had several injuries and they called the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency, who responded to the scene.

According to a Facebook post, North Wildwood detectives interviewed him during their continued investigation of Fletcher and found surveillance video footage of the man with his baby.

The video showed Fletcher looking like he was under the influence of drugs as he mistreated his baby.

Fletcher appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic as he was observed dropping and swinging the infant in an unsafe manner causing the infant to sustain several injuries.

During an interview with Fletcher, he admitted to smoking Phencyclidine (PCP) while walking with his son.

 

 

Police Credit Community Members for Protecting the Baby

North Wildwood Police say they found that several bystanders intervened on the baby's behalf before officers arrived on the scene and thanked them for keeping the situation from getting any worse.

David Fletcher was charged with endangering the welfare of the child and aggravated assault and was taken to the Cape May County jail.
