Donkey's Place currently has locations on Haddon Avenue in Camden and on Tomilson Mill Road in Medford. The new location, Donkey's Place Downtown will be located at 37 Washington Street in Mount Holly and could be open within the month.
Cheesesteak lovers are incredibly loyal to Donkey's Place known for their mouth-watering sandwiches with slabs of steak with cheese, brown onions on a poppy seed kaiser roll.
The eatery was featured on CNN's Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown in 2015. The late Bourdain called it the best cheesesteak in the area including the center of the cheesesteak universe, Philadelphia.
The original Donkeys first opened 71 years ago as a bar in Camden. Leon Lucas, who bought Donkey's Place in 1947, was a former Olympic boxer with a punch like a mule or a donkey.
The new location will of course include cheesesteaks, fries, onion rings, and more. Outdoor seating will also be available and a takeout window for pick up.
I have to be honest I've never experienced a cheesesteak from Donkey's Place. I've been to Geno's and Pat's in Philly numerous times especially when my son was in college in Philly. Now my mouth is watering for a Jersey Cheesesteak at Donkey's Place!
