UNION TOWNSHIP (Union) — Bed Bath and Beyond has acknowledged its outlook is bleak and that filing for bankruptcy appeared near, after suffering sizable losses in 2022.  An updated round of closures issued Tuesday included three Bed Bath & Beyond stores already announced as shutting last year.

During the fiscal 2022 third quarter, the company closed six stores, while running liquidation sales at Bed Bath & Beyond sites in Manalapan, Flanders and Paramus.

Those three locations remained on an updated list of closures, along with the addition of two Harmon stores in Rockaway and Parsippany and two buybuy Baby stores in Princeton and Rockaway, as confirmed by a company spokesperson on Thursday.

When asked whether employees would be given a chance to transfer to remaining locations, the same spokesperson responded to New Jersey 101.5 "We are committed to treating all Associates with respect and openness. Where possible, Associates displaced by store closings may be offered positions in neighboring stores, in addition to other benefits."

The announcement has left New Jersey with 30 Harmon stores, 26 Bed Bath & Beyond stores and eight buybuy BABY stores.

Bed Bath & Beyond President & CEO Sue Gove had confirmed an anticipated net loss of nearly $386 million for the third quarter last year in an update for the company headquartered in Union.

Gove previously said on Thursday while they had a "clear vision for the future of the company” and were considering such options as restructuring or refinancing its debt or obtaining relief under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.

She added “These measures may not be successful.”

Previously the company sold off its Christmas Tree Shop brand in 2020, to Handil Holdings.

The following Bed Bath & Beyond locations remain open in early 2023:
