Ready For Sunshine? Here’s The Do’s And Don’ts To Remember While Visiting Our South Jersey Beaches, NJ
People: we have a lot of lost time to make up for.
This Summer...I AM NOT messing around.
I want to tan and swim and drink white claw and go tubing and go boating and build sand castles and flirt and buy new bathing suits and hit up beach bars....and....okay back on track.
The last thing ANY of us need is to come across THAT GUY.
What do I mean by "THAT GUY?" Basically anyone who hits up our beaches and has no courtesy for others around them.
And you could insult beachgoers in many different ways. (I learned this the hard way)
So let's just get this out of the way before Summer officially arrives.
So read this...and DON'T. BE. THAT.GUY.
Music
Everyone likes to listen to music on the beach but be respectful of those around you. The beach is windy enough that you can listen to your music at a decent level without disrupting those that are around you. So if you are asked to turn down the music....you are being THAT GUY.
Sand
It is inevitable that sand will get EVERYWHERE when you go to the beach -- or at least if you are going to the beach properly. But when it comes time to clean your clothes and towels, don't shake that sand onto those surrounding you. Imagine taking a nap in the sun to be woken up with specs of sand in your face.
Garbage
We only have one planet so throw out your trash so that our beaches can remain clean and beautiful. A good way to judge this: leave the space just as clean or cleaner as it was when you arrived.
Noise
Kids will laugh and scream. Adults will have a "good time" as the drinks are flowing. Just try and keep it to a reasonable level!
If you are looking to rage and horse around, maybe go to a bar instead.
Face Mask Up
Unfortunately, it looks like face masks won't be going anywhere for a while. Yes, our beaches are outdoors so there will be a bit more leniency but if you are asked to mask up because of how crowded it is, JUST DO IT! You are not going to win this argument and if you push back that hard, you will lose your privilege of going on the beach all together.
Share The Space
If you come with a big group, it is understandable that you need to take up a bit more space than the happy couple to your left. But please don't set up five tents, ten chairs, a mini bar, a napping station and three umbrellas because it is not just your beach.
Lifeguards
Listen to them because they are the authority on site. They are trained. You are not. And your life is in THEIR hands. So don't be difficult.
Remain Socially Distant
This rule takes on a whole new meaning after 2020 and 2021. It was already a big no-no to put your beach set up inches away from another group....but now there is also the added layer of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Yes, we will be outdoors and yes, the hope is that a majority of us will be vaccinated by then. But trust me...if you get too close, you will be getting those dirty looks.
