Atlantic City Cops: Separate Incidents Result in Multiple Arrests

Thursday was a busy day for police officers in Atlantic City as they responded to multiple incidents in the city which resulted in several people being arrested and guns and drugs being seized.

According to the Atlantic City Police Department, officers responded to mile marker 55 in the westbound lanes of Route 30 for a report of a one-car crash. Atlantic City Fire Department personnel also arrived on-scene and located an unoccupied vehicle in the marsh. Firefighters saw a man limping away on Route 30. An officer located the man, 43-year-old Toby Mitchell of Mays Landing, and he was arrested without incident after being found to be in possession of a loaded handgun. Mitchell was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and multiple motor vehicle summons; he was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Also on Thursday, cops stopped a vehicle in the in the 1700 block of Atlantic Avenue. During the course of the stop, three men, 27-year-old Effay Johnson, Jr., of Absecon; 32-year-old James Harvey of Sicklerville; and 26-year-old Ahmad McKinley of Atlantic City were arrested. Police say Johnson was found in possession of a loaded handgun and 22 Oxycontin pills. Harvey was found in possession of 16 grams of heroin and 27 grams of marijuana. McKinley, the driver, was found in possession of paraphernalia used for the packaging and distribution of narcotics.

Johnson, Jr., was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, conspiracy, certain person not to possess a weapon, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession with intent to distribute CDS, and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

McKinley was charged with conspiracy, contempt of court, and motor vehicle summons.

Johnson and McKinley were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Harvey was charged with two counts each of possession of CDS and possession with intent to distribute CDS, single counts of conspiracy and possession of narcotic paraphernalia; he was released on a summons with a future court date.
