Work Begins as Old Big Lots Store Becomes Ocean State Job Lot in Mays Landing, NJ

A Big Retail Comeback in Hamilton Commons

On Wednesday, we reported that an empty retail spot in Mays Landing that was once home to a discount store would soon be the home of a new discount store.

And within a matter of hours, some work had already started at that site.

That new store is Ocean State Job Lot and they announced that they are moving into the former Big Lots location in the Hamilton Commons Shopping Center on the Black Horse Pike, right between Regal Cinemas and Hobby Lobby.

So, Tuesday evening, just as the sun was setting, we stopped by to take some pictures of that store...

And it's a good thing that we did because those old Big Lots signs were taken down on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, not much has happened inside (yet), although it might be safe to assume that all of those empty shelves and racks will soon be put to good use.

And we found one old beat-up Big Lots shopping cart sitting on a pile of mulch...

Ocean State Job Lot Expands in South Jersey

OSJL's Mays Landing store, which will feature household items, clothing, food, electronics, and accessories, will be the chain's 11th location in New Jersey and second in Atlantic County, joining its relatively new store on Route 9 in Somers Point.

60 New Jobs Coming to Atlantic County

Mark O’Connor, Director of Real Estate for the company, said,

With the recent closings of Christmas Tree Shops and Big Lots, we know there are a lot of people in the area looking for great deals, and we hope they'll come check us out. We're proud to invest in Atlantic County and, with our new Mays Landing store complementing our recently opened Somers Point location, we look forward to having an even bigger presence in the community.

This new store is expected to bring 60 new jobs to the area and their hiring process will be opening soon.

Ocean State did not say when they expect their Mays Landing store to open.
