Prosecutor: Atlantic City, NJ, Man Charged In Gun Headshot Murder

A collaboration between the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Atlantic City Police Department has led to the arrest and charges filed against an Atlantic City, New Jersey man.

Kelsey Smith Arrested and Charged

On Friday, July 11, 2025, an investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office and the Atlantic City Police Department led to the arrest of Kelsey Smith, 37, of Atlantic City, NJ, for the murder of Robert Stanley Davis, 40, also of Atlantic City, that occurred on June 26, 2025. Smith was charged with Murder and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, said the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Circumstances Regarding Shooting Murder

The shooting death of Robert Stanley Davis occurred on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at approximately 8:53 p.m., according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Atlantic City Police Department received a 911 call advising that a man was lying on the sidewalk outside of the Shore Park Apartments, located at 225 N. Virginia Avenue, Atlantic City, New Jersey.

When the Atlantic City Police arrived, they found Davis unresponsive “with what appeared to be one gunshot wound to the head. Davis was pronounced deceased on scene a short time later,” said the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

A autopsy was performed on Davis by The Southern Regional Medical Examiner's Office. The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound. The death of Davis has been ruled to be a homicide.
