Best Old-School Restaurants In America

When you hear the term "old-school" do you think maybe "old-fashioned" or "traditional" and is that the same when someone is discussing food and/or restaurants? The type of eateries where you step back in time and get a taste of timeless classics, some may be more classic than others.

According to a new survey posted by Lovefood, "America may have its fair share of incredible modern culinary delights, yet sometimes all you want is some classic comfort food served at an old-school joint that hasn't changed for generations."

The list from Lovefood added the best "old-school" eateries around America and their pick for New Jersey is definitely a step back in time. More of a "comfort food" place that's a Jersey icon we all need to try at least once. "Perfect for when you want to enjoy a slice of nostalgia alongside your meal."

Here in New Jersey, the best "old-school" eatery you need to try is located in Passaic County in Clifton. Lovefood posted Rutt's Hut (417 River Rd, Clifton, NJ 07014) as the old-school place to try.

According to Lovefood, "Rutt's Hut has been slinging its deep-fried hot dogs (known as 'rippers,' because the hot oil used to cause the sausage casings to burst) since 1928. As well as the rippers, which come smothered in a secret-recipe spiced relish, the joint also serves its dogs 'In-And-Out' style – which means they're only in the hot oil briefly – or fried until they're basically charred black. Inside the restaurant, the furnishings and decor have barely changed, so paying it a visit really is like stepping back in time."

I have not been to Rutt's Hut (established 97 years ago in 1928) but it is now definitely on my "foodie bucket-list". If you have been to Rutt's Hut give is your review :)
