Can We Make New Jersey Roads A Nicer Place To Drive?
I think I have uncovered a major reason why New Jersey driving is among the worst experiences ever, and we may have no one to blame but ourselves.
Why Is Driving In New Jersey Such An Awful Experience?
It has come to my attention that most drivers in the Garden State make an Olympic sport out of complaining about all the bad drivers in New Jersey.
So I decided to research on my own to see how most drivers in the Garden State perform on the roadways, including the loudest complainers.
My personal theory starts with the concept of decency. Are we doing all we can to make driving easier for our neighbors? After all, that would help the experience for all of us.
Most New Jersey Drivers Failed The Test
The quick answer is no. And I'll explain to you how I arrived at that disappointing conclusion about Garden State drivers.

I think it's reasonable to gauge a driver's concern for other drivers by determining if the driver took the opportunity to let a fellow driver in front of them when the conditions were right.
I sat in the parking lot of a crowded strip mall in Sea Girt and counted the times New Jersey drivers let someone out of the strip mall and onto Route 35 while waiting at a red light.
Results Of Test Reveal New Jersey Drivers' Ability To Be Nice On The Roads
After sitting in the lot for an extended period, I concluded that only slightly over 30% of drivers waiting at a red light on Route 35 would allow a shopper from the strip mall to enter the road in front of them.

That frustration causes a ripple effect on the roads, and nobody lets anyone in, and in my opinion, turns New Jersey driving into a bitter competition, and therefore, a terrible experience.
We can do better.
