We recently asked New Jersey residents to name the best beach town in the state and the votes came pouring in.

It's an emotional question because Jersey Shore beach towns each come with their collections of childhood memories, and moments we all want to hold on to for a lifetime.

Therefore, many of the votes we received may have been for a beach town and what it was like in the past, and that's fine. It comes with the territory when you love the Jersey Shore so much.

We had originally intended to put a top 10 list together, but we quickly realized that wouldn't be enough.

We quickly abandoned the idea of a top 15 and settled on a nice, round number like 20. That size list would keep it special but not eliminate some of the most beloved beach towns in the history of the state.
