Atlantic City Police believe a 9-year-old child was injured Thursday night after shots were fired into a home in the city.

According to police, just before 10:30 Thursday night, officers responded to the 500 block of Indiana Avenue for a ShotSpotter alert. Cops say multiple gunshots had been fired into an occupied home.

A 9-year-old girl sustained an injury to her foot. The cause of the injury is unknown, however, it is believed to be from a gunshot wound or fragmentation of a bullet. The victim was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division for treatment.

The investigation is being led by the ACPD Violent Crimes Unit. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Atlantic City Police Department at (609) 347-5766.
