New Jersey State Police said three Spirit Airlines flight attendants working at Atlantic City International Airport were hospitalized Sunday morning after inhaling fumes of some kind.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the three Spirit workers were rushed to the hospital an hour before a scheduled departure from the airport.

What Type of Fumes Did the Workers Inhale?

Det. Jeffery Lebron with the NJ State Police said they were called to assist medics after the incident. The source and type of fumes remained unclear hours after the three women were taken to the hospital.

LeBron told NJ.com that the flight attendants had been aboard the empty plane doing their preflight checks when the incident happened. Their injuries were non-life-threatening, he said. Spirit Airlines had no comment.

The information about the women's conditions and the hospital where they were taken was still unclear on Sunday afternoon. AtlantiCare's Mainland campus in Pomona is eight miles away, making it the closest hospital to the airport.

The flight attendants were scheduled to be on the Spirit flight to Fort Meyers, FL at 6:35 am, according to flight tracker information. The flight was delayed by three hours because of the medical emergency.
